Internet Archive: The Fight Continues
- retrocryptid 4y agoI've always wanted to have a legit reason to say "¡La Lucha Continua!" -- I'm enough of a techno-anarcho-marxist to be happy the archive isn't completely giving up.
- musicale 4y agoIf they win at the highest level, then at least we'll have clarity that format shifting from analog to digital is legal for library collections. But the notion of "lending" ebooks seems about as meaningful as "lending" bits. What seems to happen in practice is that ebook bits are encrypted and transmitted to reading devices, and then some sort of onerous DRM system restricts the number of simultaneous readers. If they lose at the highest level, perhaps it will provide some incentive for copyright law reform.
- phone8675309 4y agoOne of my deepest fantasies is that from a case like this some court rules that using DRM prevents you from claiming copyright protection. I know it will never happen, but let me fantasize, please.
