RaspAP-The easiest, full-featured wireless router setup for Debian-based devices
- rektide 4y agoIt's been half a decade since I tried but I'm excited to some day again try various USB wifi chipsets. I kept having promising starts but either there would be a max client limit or the driver would start spewing errors/slowing down over time or something would happen, to push whatever new chipsets I was trying into unusability. The faq mentions the very excellent Linux wifi resource, https://docs.raspap.com/faq/#where-can-i-find-a-list-of-usb-wifi-adapters-that-use-in-kernel-drivers https://docs.raspap.com/faq/#where-can-i-find-a-list-of-usb-... https://github.com/morrownr/USB-WiFi/blob/main/home/USB_WiFi_Chipsets.md https://github.com/morrownr/USB-WiFi/blob/main/home/USB_WiFi... MediaTek had been the only thing modern & well supported upstream but Realtek just five days ago got the heavy check! It's such a pure noble & great premise, that we can easily add AP mode to the world of devices, expensive or cheap. I'd way rather have like 6 medium speed AP's in my house than 1-2 very high speed big AP's. And AP costs are totally off the wall absurd. TBD whether the hardware really works well enough as real AP hardware but such promise. And this RaspAP is such a slick looking nice software stack to make it happen on- can install on Debian! Being able to have a regular good computer or rpi that also has AP is so much more exciting to me than having special purposes OSes with limited niche computer uses; the computer is a general purpose wonder & that capability but not-specialization is divine.
