You can get cheap NVMe drives for around the same price with a controller supporting HMB (Host Memory Buffer) which to a large degree neutralizes the disadvantage of having no expensive DRAM on board. If you need some small form factors like 2242 or 2230 you pretty much don’t have any DRAM options anyway.
