My best friends and I moved apart after college. I've only seen them a few times since. We keep in touch over Discord. One of them is active on HN. (Hi!) It's not easy when we live on opposite coasts. When there are months between physical contact it gets very lonely. I've got so starved of meaningful social interaction that I had to fly home to my parents just to get a hug. Coworkers and random people from meetups just felt empty. Escaping for a single day was enough to keep me going until I found a better place to work and live.
