I read the Reddit post and found that most people agreed that they got fooled by the fact that they didn't think it to be very controversial, just a bit silly maybe. Perhaps the fear that people have, that these AI generated images could sway the public's opinion on high-profile cases isn't as realistic as perhaps these technologies being used to create small adulterations that could, combined, have a huge effect.
