Why You Should Not Swap {Caps Lock, Control} Keys (2014)
- nightfly 4y agoCaps lock becomes an additional control. I use the left modifier keys like 90% of the time anyways
- turtleyacht 4y ago> You can use your palm to press the Control key, instead of.. your pinky > Another way is to curl in your fingers into a semi-fist, then sit your palm or pinky knuckle on the Ctrl key. I knew about the first, but I'll try the second, too. Thank-you.
- Sunspark 4y ago> On a typical PC keyboard of today, the Caps Lock is pressed by the weakest finger pinky. The Ctrl key can be easily pressed with palm I wonder what size hand is needed for this technique? I'm typing this on an 1980s keyboard that was originally created with the control key on the home row (and yes, the Enter key is labelled as Return too). It's a lot easier to Ctrl-C if I can just slide my hand slightly to the left with a slight turn to the right. The technique being described using the palm involves a lot more contortion. Also, the use case needs to be considered. I am not a vi user, but if I was, it would make a huge difference in ergonomics and comfort to have the control key on the home row. vi was created with that layout in mind. I like that the caps lock key is small and tucked away in the corner. How often do I need to type in all-caps for an extended period? I HAVE NOW ACTIVATED THE SWITCH USING MY PINKY FINGER STOP IT IS HAMMER TIME STOP
