I'm guessing this is more about clickbait marketing to spur sales of books, and nothing to do with modern moral standards. That said, it reminds me of a years ago controversy over some social conservative group selling "family friendly" edits of movies. "Both sides" do this, hence, much like most headline controversy, why I believe its marketing ruse to sell more stuff
