If you want a very short but excellent kick starter for helping yourself become a better writer, I would highly suggest ‘On Writing’ by Stephen King. It was the first things I ever read of his because I don’t like scary stuff. I was so impressed that I have started to read some of his works… and they are amazing. He is such an amazing story teller. Highly recommend picking up ‘On Writing’ and letting it guide you towards a future of improved writing skills via practice and helpful concepts.
