I'm trying to figure out why the concept of Overton Window is invoked, here.
Are they using the term correctly? More people talking about something is not what a shift in the Overton Window means, right? For that, it has to be that it once unacceptable to discuss the risks of AI.
Was it ever unacceptable?
- cubefox 4y agoYes, and it still partly is. If you earnestly say that AI is likely to kill us all, you will be looked at as a crazy fool in most contexts. You still lose a lot of credibility if you aren't wording it very carefully. A few years ago, journalists wouldn't have published any of those pieces warning about AI risks. Hell, a few months ago they wouldn't have done it.
