The problem remains giving police immunity from suit. You wouldn't be getting these outcomes if police were held as equal under law to everyone else, and private prosecution was still available. There's no need to reach for either extremes of "defund the police" and "defend the police (no matter what they do)". All that's needed is to restore previous law, and apply it equally to everyone.
