I survived the dot com bubble.
Im assuming your in tech, as your posting here on HN.
While your looking for work (1-3 days a week, 8 hours a day) you should also be working. That means helping someone build their small biz web site, or working on an open source project or doing something with your own project. If you have to get another job on top of this (gig, or cashmere at a local shop) do that too.
You have to get off your ass, you have to go go go. Wake up every day and imagine your problems as a bear chasing you (and every one else in your shoes) and that everything your doing is you running away... You want to be the last man standing, you want to be the one someone sees and pulls you out of the crowed.
The more you do, the more contacts you make, this is your network, and your support group (they are keeping you busy).
Make sure you stay heathy as well. Cook for you self (not garbage) and exercise.
Im not going to wish you good luck. There is no luck here, just hard work, work you can do.
Happy hustling tho!
