Anyone with a good link on why CDF is the outlier?
- elashri 4y agoI think Fermilab's report [1] is useful to explain that [1] https://news.fnal.gov/2022/04/cdf-collaboration-at-fermilab-announces-most-precise-ever-measurement-of-w-boson-mass/ https://news.fnal.gov/2022/04/cdf-collaboration-at-fermilab-...
- kzrdude 4y agoI think it didn't explain it. Well, there is this > The CDF measurement was performed over the course of many years, with the measured value hidden from the analyzers until the procedures were fully scrutinized. When we uncovered the value, it was a surprise. Which we can interpret. One way is: We were working blindly on this, so our value is not biased towards hitting a particular number.
- beezle 4y agoYeah the PR really didn't get into it. However, Tommaso helped quite a bit with two posts from last year https://www.science20.com/tommaso_dorigo/is_the_cdf_w_mass_measurement_a_nail_in_the_sm_coffin-256017 https://www.science20.com/tommaso_dorigo/is_the_cdf_w_mass_m... https://www.science20.com/tommaso_dorigo/how_inconsistent_really_are_the_w_mass_measurements-256071 https://www.science20.com/tommaso_dorigo/how_inconsistent_re...
