Ikea's wood is actual garbage. Anything of theirs that is made of metal is pretty solid, especially if you apply some Loctite. As a comparison, a drink spilled on a wooden end table ended up absorbing it, swelling and warping. Then I left one of their indoor metal-frame couches outside for a couple years and it's only now starting to rust. Their plastic-and-metal chairs seem to be the best of all worlds except comfort. They survive heavy use by children, so it suits my needs.
