Is Working from Home Working?
- k12sosse 4y ago"Pay no attention to the rampant homelessness, addiction, and the culture of me vs. you ('If they're fighting with each other, they can't fight their government'), we're losing the corporate war with CHINA of all people, what's wrong with you? You should feel bad for breaking the bindings of your thousand-year bondage." There are many broken components of this system, and remote work isn't one of them. They stood by while either corporate greed, or "multinational agreements" like NAFTA robbed the people of "mechanical work" by allowing corporations to move the production of widgets to low income nations. Trading a nation of middle class citizens, for more dollars in their quarterlies for the investors. What other nations didn't get from those free-trade agreements, they stole in corporate espionage, and they got away with it. You reap what you sow. We will die on this sword. Will you die on yours?
- mindcrime 4y agoI’ll concede that apart from the shrunken labor force, hard data on the impact of new work arrangements is at best inconclusive, since statistics remain distorted by Covid effects. And I’ll concede that technology, particularly video conferencing, has made remote work more feasible, particularly if structured as specific days designated as remote. Lastly, I’ll concede that some of the time spent on commuting (and perhaps, personal grooming) can be considered wasted. IOW "basically everything in this ill-advised essay is complete horse-shit." But put me down as skeptical about that and much of the notion that when it comes to work, less can be more. That's because you haven't invested the time to properly inform yourself. So maybe, ironically, you just proved your own point. Very clever.
