People pussy foot their cars because they've never been taught how they work. If you've matched speeds there's always a gap because your relative velocity to the other cars is zero thus even small spaces are easy to move into. Whereas when you're afraid to push on the gas pedal and get to the speed that traffic is moving at prior to the end of the acceleration lane those gaps look very very small because your relative velocity can be a difference of 20 to 30 mph. I understand that about babies because I've had kids. What you fail at understanding is just because your kid is screaming there's no need to subject everyone else around you too this disruption in a public space. A polite person who cannot calm their child would simply leave to avoid subjecting everyone else to this.
