Intel really needs to not give up and double down their game in the GPU space as there's curranty an opening for them. Nvidia more or less abandoned the gaming market with their insane prices and hold a monopoly in the ML space so they charge whatever they want. AMD is second best in gaming while charging gamers near Nvidia money for GPUs that are weaker and have less feature and being completely absent in the ML space.
Here's what you gotta do to succed Intel: Make affordable GPUs in the price bracket previously occupied by Nvidia's XX60 series cards, that has the SW support to run CUDO compatible ML workloads, and you screw over both AMD and Nvidia.
Really curious if Raja left on his own or was pushed out with a golden parachute, and who they'll replace him with.
- KeplerBoy 4y agoWe really need some competition to Nvidia's CUDA ecosystem. Both Intel and AMD have some half-baked initiatives, but they need to ramp that stuff up quickly (as quickly as one can catch up to 15 years of development, while the competition was complacently sitting on OpenCL). We can't have all the new AI models be powered by Nvidia, that clearly won't end well. I really hope it won't be nvidia and cloud exclusive ASICs like Google's TPUs.
