I think it is more likely that investors knew what they were buying and we were happy when they could take more risk (and get higher returns) than they otherwise could. This kind of details can get lost in large organization when things get reported to higher ups. Which of course might be also beneficial to those doing the investments. Your risk exposure seems low, but profits are good - might earn you a good bonus.
