The vmware suite (and similar tools) pricing is often not taken into account when comparing on-premise to cloud, which I find pretty ironic considering how much we talk about the hidden costs of the cloud. And the (crazy high) costs are usually tied to the numbers of cores/sockets you run, so not necessarily cheaper to scale.
