Free is used as a tool to get people to rely on a service/platform/company. If the terms change and we have to pay then we feel betrayed. And rightfully so, it's a bait-and-switch. Our time spent switching away from a previously free service isn't free. It's the bait-and-switch and the cost of switching that makes people the most upset.
