Some of Frank Sinatra's lyrics were his way and Shestovian
- 1letterunixname 4y ago"The positive central idea is that the human psyche, or soul, really believes in itself, and in nothing else." excerpt from D. H. Lawrence's foreword to "All Things Are Possible" (1905). The title borrows a phrase from The Christian Bible, although Shsetov may have shuffled off some beliefs about dogmatic organized religion.
- markus_zhang 4y agoI knew Shestov from some existential philosophy forum back in university 20 years ago. Although I didn't actually understand much, my lean towards Russian music and literatures (especially Rachmaninoff and Dostoevsky) helped me to gain some insights to Shestov's ideas. I might go back to revisit his books when I'm older.
- markus_zhang 4y agoUltimately I'm a man of reason but have been suffering from existential crisis since childhood, if children can suffer from that. This duality somehow granted me appreciation of Russian classical music, literature as well as Shestov's philosophy, but at the same time my reason half rejects his ideas. During the years I gradually distanced myself away from the formal self but a recent child birth regenerated it. It shall be interesting to re-visit it.
