Being able to follow just hashtags and users and never getting recommended garbage is very nice. I mostly just use Twitter to follow Dril now.

- jeroenhd 4y agoI'm sure Twitter will kill them one of these days, but services like https://bird.makeup/users/Dril/remote_follow https://bird.makeup/users/Dril/remote_follow exist, which allow you to follow Twitter users on Mastodon. This has the downside of missing interactivity and incomplete reaction chains, but as someone who's usually not interested in either it's been good enough for me to remove Twitter from my pinned tabs.
- jeffbee 4y agoIn what way would that be different from the Twitter "Following" feed?
- jeromegv 4y agoLots of spam on twitter nowadays, so following a hashtag might lead to a lot of garbage. And the other difference obviously is ads, you read 5 tweets and get an ad in the following feed.
