Nobody's day to day life will actually change because of telescope images. It's, for the vast bulk of all people, a curiousity. Claimed detection of life away from Earth will always be met with disinterest, skepticism. It's neat if you like astronomy but it can't, and won't, change anything any more than the relatively recent discovery of virophages has.
