Servers for AI are not free, and workers in India are really cheap, similarly to how minimum wage workers in the US are really cheap compared to robots that need constant care and maintenance. But that cost isn't even the main factor. The main cost is communication, and if you can actually get exactly what you want. That is the main challenge to offshoring, which settles many companies with technical debt where it isn't clear whether they benefit at the end at all. So if AI competes with offshoring, I don't know if that is a great value proposition.
