For the record, I was able to record a CD-R at 1x (the only speed I trust) on a 486 SX2 processor, running at 33MHZ in the late 90s/early 00s, just to test whether I really needed a 233MHz Pentium II PC as advertised on most Best Buy CD-writer boxes.
