It's especially bad at sports. You ask for things like when a game is playing and it will return the current (or final) score. That is literally the last thing people want when they ask for a game time. If they wanted a score they'd ask for a score. And this is trivial to fix. Just stop returning scores when people don't ask for scores. There are countless examples like this in different domains. It just hasn't improved.
