Tell HN: Robocallers are now pretending to be live humans
I've gotten several marketing calls where the voice on the end sounded human. But if you ignore the question they ask and say something simple but unexpected, they aren't able to respond. ("What day is it?" "Prove to me that you're a live human. What's the first letter of that name you just gave me...")
I think one tactic is to bring in a live person, but then have them record (from a script) -- and then swap in those recorded responses at appropriate times. (That happened to me this morning -- but they kept playing the same recording.) What was especially frustrating about that was that they'd had them record the phrase "I AM a live person -- but I'm reading from a script." (And then they played that identical recording, twice in a row...)
Now that this is happening, I'm not sure what my response should be. (Don't answer the phone; take the call and waste their time; spread mass awareness and push for government regulations...?)

- epc 4y agoI gave up and forwarded my home phone to a voicemail service. Anyone who needs to reach us leaves voicemail. The dozens of daily automated phone calls just hang up.
