Obviously this isn't everyone who has fled, but I think it's important to note that having left Russia doesn't necessarily mean someone doesn't support Putin.
- sylware 4y agoYeah, I know that those who fled russia are only "more likely" not to endorse putin's regime war. Those are terrible times to be russian, as trust is going to be almost impossible to get now. That said the case of iranian and chinese ppl...
- iavael 4y agoIn my experience most don't support Putin. But most people didn't have option to just throw everything and leave the country: they had jobs, mortrages, kids, old parents etc. Because of this only 1/4 of all emigrants left Russia in March 2022 (because they were young, didn't have any liabilities and people who depend on them), and other 3/4 had their lives to be threatened to risk everything else. They had different circumstances but almost all of them are middle class members who are culturally rich enough, have some savings and demanded skills to live and work in other countries with other culture. For average Putin supporter it's almost impossible to do this trick: they have no savings (most have mortrage which makes thing even more complicated for them even if it's low 7-8% annual rate one), no cultural flexibility (so they know that they gonna be even more atomized than is Russia) and no internationally demanded job (remember, nobody will give russian emigrants any welfare support). Some Putin supporters tried to leave Russia when draft began, but most quickly returned back. There are some who managed to stay abroad after leaving country in 2022 but they are so rare that any vocal support of Putin from russian emigrant becomes news. Most of people with russian roots who support Putin are actually those who left Russia long before 2022 (not all of them of course). We even had jokes about how common it is when russian leaves Russia because of everything bad that government does there and after year or two becomes russian government supporter.
