The feeling of creation is actually really satisfying and over time I've found it more enjoyable than straight consumption. Don't have the numbers off the top of my head but people generally consume far more than they create, and they would rather read other people's content than write their own stuff. There is some satisfaction from reading someone else's ideas but IMO it doesn't beat the feeling you get from coming up with and presenting your own opinions. This is true for articles/blogging as well as writing fiction. I also second the idea of publishing your content publicly - it encourages you to keep the quality up as someone might read it!
