U.S. Pushes for TikTok Sale to Resolve National Security Concerns
- wavesounds 4y agoOn top of the security concerns it's also not "fair trade" if US social media companies cannot operate in China while theirs are allowed to operate here. There are plenty of alternatives to TikTok now, banning them is a no brainer.
- cute_boi 4y agoComparing the US and China is preposterous. Instead of targeting the Tiktok, how about we target a proper policy. This baptist vs bootleggers law isn't going to help. This will just mean user will move to copycats like Instagram or Youtube.
- Cookingboy 4y agoYeah, I'm not ok for us to start our own version of The Great Firewall just because China does it. China bans foreign news sites too. Should we ban news sites from all countries that's not U.S. allies?
- nomay 4y agoThe CCP way is making you do thing out of your own volition so that they can always be the nice guy, they never banned US companies, they just made them extremely uncomfortable to operate so they quit themselves.
- NoZebra120vClip 4y agoI am not sure what is more absurd. The idea that China got away with TikTok for as long as it did? The idea that banz0rzing a single app will alleviate national security concerns vis-a-vis a top technological superpower? That people don't seem to realise that every silly game and utility app they've installed has a high probability of serving a nation-state-level APT? That Google/Apple/Microsoft are all engaged in exactly the same activities as TikTok, but I guess it's OK because they're domestic? It's just a comedy of errors. Turtles all the way down.
- _8j50 4y ago> That Google/Apple/Microsoft are all engaged in exactly the same activities as TikTok, but I guess it's OK because they're domestic? Yes. Why is that a shock to so many people? This isn't some sort of a moral debate, this is a conccern of an information war and quite possibly an actual war soon enough. The concern is not that the CCP will harm american users directly but will influence them at scale and use that information to conduct hostile espionage operations, extortions and other subterfuge which will only get worse with the already declared goal of Taiwan unification in Xi's new term and a potential related military conflict. If Mark zuckerberg became a national securitu risk you can lock him up and tell him how naughty he has been. Can't do that with Xi.
- Cookingboy 4y ago>If Mark zuckerberg became a national securitu risk you can lock him up and tell him how naughty he has been. Can't do that with Xi. Lol FB was already proven to be a national security risk over and over again. See Russian influence, Cambridge Analytica, etc. But he's A-ok because he spends enough money bribing our politicians. This whole thing is a propaganda campaign by Meta to take out their biggest competitor:https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/03/30/facebook-tiktok-targeted-victory/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/03/30/faceboo... If ByteDance sells TikTok, I bet you Meta would be part of the purchase.
- _8j50 4y agoWhat a dishonest thing to say. FB was abused by bad actors but it wasn't at Mark's direction or by his employees and you freaking know that.
- no_time 4y ago>banz0rzing lol I thought this is some new l33t slang Im out of the loop with. But in fact this comment is the only occurrence on google.
