Ask HN: Should kids play PC games instead of Console to develop programing?
- uberman 4y agoBy programming do you mean typing?
- amrrs 4y agoComputer Programming. I've heard from many that early gamers turned out to be great coders. I was wondering that could have been because they used PC and got hacker attitude but that might not be the case with console.
- wsgeorge 4y ago> do you mean typing? I see what you did there :) Funny thing is, for one person I know, lots of typing was a barrier to him transitioning from gaming to programming. He's long ago overcome that! But tinkering with software to modify its behaviour - hacking - is what OP must mean. The general-purposeness of PCs facilitates that much more than the major consoles do.

- richardjam73 4y agoYes but they also need to play games with modding or programming features. Learning how to download files and put them in the right place to alter gameplay is an important step in understanding how things work. From there you can learn how to modify the files to change the gameplay. It is not just code but also about different asset types and configuration files.
