I don't know if this is an accurate figure, but Google supposedly had about 3,000 employees in 2004. Since then it seems to have grown headcount at an exponential rate of almost 25% per year, compounded. Google + (arbitrarily choosing another FAANG) Meta combined have or recently had on the order of a quarter million employees, comparable to the total employees in NY state government.
