Why are so many looking for a villain here? I don’t think anyone did anything wrong at all. Alex correctly assessed that he was giving his customer everything they wanted, and left it at that. It doesn’t sound like he was pushy. He didn’t call more than once in a while after big deposits. Mitchel just needed a place to hold cash. Seems like they both got everything they needed out of the relationship. If anybody here was deluded, maybe it was Alex’s leadership who mistakenly thought there was a chance to sell huge financial products to this “whale.” Alex understood otherwise, and probably spent most of his time managing that impedance mismatch with his boss.
