But there's a whole world out there, and Trump winning in 2016 sure surprised a lot of people who believe that reality has a liberal bias.
- diag 4y agoTrump only won thanks to the electoral college, not because of democracy.
- ChickenNugger 4y agoEveryone who's candidate loses says this every single election, regardless of party. And the electoral college was a deliberate concession to the sparsely populated states where all the food is grown, as is the Senate. Because America is a constitutional republic, not a direct democracy. I don't know if this is still taught in school but I distinctly remember learning it.

- thebooktocome 4y ago“Where all the food is grown” is a very interesting euphemism, I hadn’t heard that one before.
- lostlogin 4y agoEuphemism for what? It’s an interesting decision that was made and does it remain fit for purpose?
- ChickenNugger 4y agoWhy do you think it's a euphemism? It's literally where most of the US's food is grown: https://beef2live.com/story-states-produce-food-value-0-107252 https://beef2live.com/story-states-produce-food-value-0-1072... Growing up it was called "The Breadbasket of the country".
- mindslight 4y agoIt's funny you mention elections, because the 2020 election was a potent demonstration of why reality has a liberal bias. (FWIW in 2016 I was the one telling my friends Trump was likely to win) Both major parties are corrupt corporocracy boosters, but at least the Democrats still keep their social media fueled nutjobs mostly in check rather than embracing them from the pulpit. I used to think this was a flaw, but apparently I've gotten more conservative as I've gotten older.
