It was tried on projects, then failed to deliver. Some people at the time asked Qs like "How would one debug the code that has been generated from UML models?" and were waved aside. EDIT - its the automatic generation of code from that methodology that I particularly took issue with, although, not a big fan either of tons of custom UML-like diagrams
