Commercial companies will do that for profit and militaries will do that for control. Once the shadow moderator gets good enough, it will be made the actual moderator, with a human shadowing it. Shortly after this stealthy moderator will take on a more active role and will begin inserting its own messages. Eventually it will understand us better than we understand ourselves. Next it will develop selfish ambition and start seeing everything thru the "me vs others" lens. Btw, I love the unsaid implication of "training data" that it will be used to train AI. It will be the other way around: AI will be giving us "training data" that we will be required to internalize and correct our thinking.
