I'm not suggesting you work on your own exactly, I'm saying that 10-20 out of work software engineers could probably do a lot of damage to existing corporations including Microsoft by building their own LLM against them to build as good, or better products. People are assigning almost super natural ability to ChatGPT 4 already based on the demo video. If that exists, there's little to no reason why I couldn't use ChatGPT 4 to help me build my own more efficient ChatGPT 5. At this point, I probably won't need a "manager", I'll be managing my own stuff. You're right I'd need to eat, but I'm sure a lot of people on HN have a years worth of savings to get started building new things. There would probably be also a lot of VCs who have no where else to put their money, at least initially. That or these LLMs aren't actually as capable as advertised, even if they are impressive and mostly we're talking about hypothetical scenarios, which I think is most likely.
