Species from the deeper parts of the ocean like this cannot generally afford the luxury of being picky eaters. I'd be very hesitant to get as close to one as these people are.
- cozzyd 4y agoYeah very confused why it's near the surface...

- kevinmhickey 4y agoI'm no expert but it didn't look very healthy. Mottled color and lethargic movement. Maybe that's normal but my gut says that squid is not feeling well.
- e_i_pi_2 4y agoThere's a (supposedly) marine biologist in the comments of the video saying it looks like it's about to die so that could explain why it's so far up. I have no background there but doesn't look too healthy to me and that's the best explanation

- Laaas 4y ago> I'd be very hesitant to get as close to one as these people are. Reminds me of this HN comment [0]: > But it was extremely dangerous. He didn't develop any long term issues, but he told one story where they suddenly lost a man. There was a quick shadow and then a man was gone. They found a piece of dive suit in the area. They believe it was a giant squid that got their buddy. [0]: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33004539 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33004539
