TBH, even in the last few months you've been able to get comparable comp packages at the high end of senior and staff levels at public unicorns. G is no longer particularly competitive comp-wise. I suspect the issue was that FAANG was massively overpaying junior talent fresh out of school (and hiring leetcoders without any engineering background) and now they're correcting.
