  As always, Godzilla can be depended upon to save humanity, at least in the final accounting. On the way there he might trash a few cities, but all in all he's worth it. Giant squid, your days are numbered. Drop that delicious deep sea diver and go back to your lair.

These animals don't tend to spend a lot of time near the surface unless something is wrong... Species from the deeper parts of the ocean like this cannot generally afford the luxury of being picky eaters. I'd be very hesitant to get as close to one as these people are.

    The ones encountered near the surface in the past gave either been entangled in nets or sick/dying

      I'm no expert but it didn't look very healthy. Mottled color and lethargic movement. Maybe that's normal but my gut says that squid is not feeling well.

  There's a (supposedly) marine biologist in the comments of the video saying it looks like it's about to die so that could explain why it's so far up. I have no background there but doesn't look too healthy to me and that's the best explanation

  It's skin looks quite bad, it isn't moving, and they don't shed their skin do they?

Feeling OLD. When I was a kid (1960s) giant squid were just folklore. The very idea of giant squid retained that feeling of mystery until, well, recently.
