but the biggest problem is, as I see it, there isn't anywhere new to go, really.
Reddit was a great upgrade from what digg was offering, threaded comments and subreddits and much more democratic moderation.
What's the alternative to reddit, what does it offer?
- tenuousemphasis 4y agoI think the biggest upgrade that can never happen on Reddit (because of the entrenched moderator community) is the ability to democratically oust a rogue moderator. Reddit is really more of a dictatorship than a democracy, the most senior moderator can do pretty much whatever they want within the bounds of the site guidelines.
- shagie 4y agoBut then Sybil becomes the mod of every sub... or a brigade gets someone. The ousting process has been updated a few months ago ( https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/wiki/top_mod_removal https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/wiki/top_mod_removal ). Unless you get to one real person, one vote (a significant hurdle) and avoid the possibility of a brigade from one interested and determined group, such a process would inevitably be far worse.
