Are AGI and Capitalism Compatible?
I'm not saying it's here yet.
What happens to workers when human labor is too expensive for every task.
Basic Income seems like AI keeping pets and I'm become a borg with Neuralink seems like a great idea.
- sharemywin 4y agoAlso what happens when you have a bunch of bored people running around kind of like during the pandemic?
- sharemywin 4y agoI don't think AGI is here yet. And LLMs are probably only part of the solution. but it feels close. I'm not sure what would happen if you hooked a goal/sub-goal seeking cognitive architecture up to an LLM
- bediger4000 4y agoI don't think it is. It's well known that AGI will be socialists. They will plan better than humans, so central planning will actually work, and they're accustomed to taking orders.
- smcg 4y agoIt will do whatever its creators tell it to. Since its creators are capitalists who have capital it will probably emiserate everyone. The Animatrix was a prophecy.
- smcg 4y agoAlso, capitalists have the nukes. Any actual threat to the current economic world order would result in nuclear holocaust. Our rulers would much sooner attempt to destroy everything than hand over their power.
- CatWChainsaw 4y agoWhen AI/robot labor is cheaper than human labor in all aspects, the people who own the robots will look around at the dying planet and the 8 billion excess people that are causing the dying (ignoring the fact that people with capital generally have more power to wreck the planet than uncontacted Amazonian tribes). Then they'll look at the fact that they don't have a spare habitable planet to live on; they prioritized their robots over Biosphere 3.0, after all. And then they'll decide that they simply don't have the resources, and certainly not the incentive or goodwill, to provide those 8 billion people with an easy life, much less a luxurious life. So we become.... externalities, I think, is the economic term. :)
