Fundamentally this all boils down to precision measurement/observability (for both analog and digital).
Occasionally, small changes are observed in high end equipment with high precision instrumentation - but a subjective interpretation to a psychometric observation is applied as cause and effect.
Arguably, the cost alone is enough of a placebo to sell anything for a desired effect.
- Tor3 4y agoThe difference between analog and digital is that with analog you get precision problems if the quality isn't good - typically you don't get the high frequencies through (i.e. you have an unintentional low-pass filter. Maybe you'll need precision instruments to actually notice.) But with digital it's not about reduced precision. The errors will be all over the place (the bit error is as likely to be in the most significant bit as in the least significant bit). In other words, it's not a precision problem when it comes to digital. The problem, too, is digital - either it works, or it doesn't.
