Thinking 400k total compensation to do 20 hours of low-effort work and feeling entitled that you aren't paid enough. Mindset needs to shift to hustle and grind no matter what company - FAANG, midsized, startup, etc. The marginal software engineer will continue to get laid off, and what constitutes "marginal" will be a higher bar each time. Don't rest on your laurels!
- mynameisvlad 4y agoFuck no. People don’t need to “hustle and grind” 24/7. All that does is lead to burnout. Anyone who has been through the FAANG churner knows this already. If anything is groupthink, it’s this stupid mentality forcing employees to work beyond their breaking point to earn someone else their millions of dollars.
- monero-xmr 4y agoI foresee a lot more pain in the economy before it gets better, and tech jobs became the cushiest of the cushiest jobs the world has ever seen. Mentally prepare yourself - reality hurts.
- mynameisvlad 4y agoLmao, with that advice coming from a cryptobro CTO, I’m good. Maybe learn that while you may thrive in the hustle and bustle, others (in fact, I would say, the majority of people) don’t. And that’s fine too. I quite frankly don’t need to emulate you to feel success in my life.
- monero-xmr 4y agoThe free market won't pay $400k salaries for no work. It's over
- mynameisvlad 4y agoDid anyone say otherwise? I at no point responded to that claim, but rather the absurd claim that everyone needs to hustle and bustle all the time regardless what company they’re at. And then continued to bring up without mentioning the pay. For a reason. I’m aware that it’s a lot easier to defend that strawman than the actual thing being pushed back on. But this is just lazy. Which is ironic coming from you.
- RomanPushkin 4y agoFolks were thinking of 400k as of 400k some time 1-2 years ago. Now it's gonna be different. 400k pretty much means "work for a year for 400k, get laid off, look for a job for the next year or so, or accept lower paying position". It dilutes 400k into 200k or so. There is no 400-500-600k jobs anymore. They gonna lay you off in a day. So 400k is a cheat rate for HR to sell the position. Honest rate is x0.5 or even less.
