Aside from the fact that all the bigwig AI doomers are freaking out about this (Eliezer of MIRI/LW/EA.. claims that people having kids today will live to see their kids in kindergarten), how much of an advance is this really ? I mean okay, so you trained something to replace all those cheap labour in India/Phillipines, who probably didn't understand English any better. What does this mean though ? Folks like Emily Bender etc. are unconvinced that this is a very big leap in terms of working our way to AGI.
