The Hisense A9 Pro Is a Great E Ink Phone with Upgraded Specs
- mistyvales 4y agoThis sounds awesome, but should a user worry about spyware? Wish they made one as small as the those Sony Mini or iPhone mini phones.
- ChuckNorris89 4y agoAnyone remember Motorola making the world's first e-ink phone?[1] Hardware was great and sturdy while affordable, but its UX was a professional torture device and battery life was sub-par for the expectations of an e-ink device. Not sure how I feel jumping into an e-ink phone train again in the age of today. A lot of modern communication is done via pics and videos in messaging apps, so having a slow grayscale display will suck. - nateb2022 4y agoDid you watch the video? In speed mode, the e-ink display actually does a half-decent job. Definitely not 60fps, but much much more usable than most of the competition.
- ChuckNorris89 4y agoI've worked with i-enk devices before. High-refresh mode nukes your battery worse than normal LCDs.
- ekianjo 4y agobattery lasts weeks! Now that's something I want to see on my phone...
- retox 4y agoChinese phones with extremely large batteries have been around for years. The Ulefone Power range have batteries up to 12,000 mAh for instance. My Power 5 lasts about 3 weeks on a charge and it's ~3 years old, loaded with apps and I play about 10 hours of podcasts a week. I got 7 weeks out of it when it was brand new and it only had a couple of messaging apps. Jank from flashing a clean ROM and no clear update path is the price you have to pay though.
- ekianjo 4y ago> The Ulefone Power range have batteries up to 12,000 mAh for instance. Sounds like they should be fairly heavy?
- goosedragons 4y agoSeems like the current ones weigh over a pound...
- dtx1 4y agoGreat E Ink Phone, maybe. Great Phone? Absolutely not. No Playstore. Old Android. No guaranteed upgrade timeline, no 5G. This is just more future e-waste that no one should use for anything that requires a password, let alone basic software security.
- shortrounddev 4y agoI think e-ink phones are intended for more minimalist users who don't really want an appstore to have access to. "Great E ink phone" and "Great phone" are distinct categories.
- weare138 4y agoIt seems odd to pair the e-ink screen with fairly high spec/priced hardware.
- hi_user 4y agoYou should look at Hisense Touch or Hisense hireader. It's a e-reader in smartphone form factor
- mikelward 4y ago> The Hisense A9 runs Google Android 11, a very modern OS Yeah, no.
