This is nonsense. It is cheap to generate electricity from fission, i.e. it is cheap to operate a nuclear power plant, that much is true, but it is such an isolated statement that it is meaningless. Nuclear power is cost prohibitive because of the total cost, of constructing a nuclear power plant, the cost of uranium, the cost of security, the cost of storing waste for hundreds of years and securing that waste for hundreds of years (btw, we have been storing the waste from reactors on site, and every temporary waste storage site has been at capacity for decades... you have no idea how bad the nuclear waste problem is, because if you did, you'd not be begging for more of it). And if there is an accident, which is rare but it has happened hundreds of times, the real cost of that electricity goes right through the sky.
Who builds nuclear power plants? France. Not some French company backed by investors, France. South Korea. Not some South Korean company, the country of South Korea. China. Not some Chinese company, but the country. No one can afford to build nuclear power plants except for nations. That should mean something to you. The reason is because there are no investors anywhere in the world that would sink their capital into nuclear power because it always loses mountains of money. Always. Nuclear has not ever been profitable and never will be until electricity is in such high demand that scarcity makes prices skyrocket. But it still won't ever happen because alternative energies are so far ahead in such a short time and for practically nothing compared to the amount of time spent in development of and the absurd amounts spent on development of nuclear spanning half a century. And alternative energies will continue to be developed while the technological development of nuclear power ceased decades ago.
Economics kills nuclear, and that is the bottom line. If nuclear power was profitable, you could not stop plants from being built, not even by a damn vote. They'd be everywhere. But nuclear hasn't even ever come close to breaking even. And the only reason we have the 93 or so nuclear power plants that we do in the US (I think 110 were built) was because some Defense wonk vastly overestimated the amount of fuel for bombs that we needed. Fact: if it weren't for nuclear weapons, not even 10 of those US nuclear power plants would have broken ground. Why? Money, and that is all that matters. If supplying everyone with electricity isn't profitable then we will not have electricity. Period. Please learn this, and set aside your entitlement.
