I'm hoping this is a situation where google hopes they'll lose but they'll force apple to argue public ally against ridiculous software patents. But this is probably giving Google too much credit.

They'll probably win the patent battle in Europe on the 3rd Feb where one of the patents is being disputed, and since they've won previously against older Apple products its not 100% in favour of Apple.
