OP forgot the new classic "unreasonably effective"
- rchaud 4y agoBy far one of the biggest offenders.
- kazinator 4y agoThe adverb there is actually meaningful, unlike something like "massively" or "immensely". It conveys the idea that something is effective to a degree that seems unjustifiable by reason. There is an idea out there, in the context of improving writing, that adverbs are useless; but it's not the case that no adverb ever plays a useful role in a sentence.
