Adrian Schoolcraft: Police Officer Forcibly Committed for Reporting Corruption
- notadev 4y agoThe podcast This American Life did a story on Adrian in 2010. You can hear parts of the audio recordings as well. https://www.thisamericanlife.org/414/right-to-remain-silent/act-two-0 https://www.thisamericanlife.org/414/right-to-remain-silent/...
- tehwebguy 4y agoYeah I mean why wouldn’t they do this? I mean it worked right? There’s basically no risk factor: NYPD can do almost anything without ever facing any meaningful consequence on the individual or org level. NYPD paid a $650k settlement direct from the taxpayers pockets, a meaningless “consequence”
- giraffe_lady 4y agoIn 2020 they doxed and pretty directly threatened the mayor's daughter after he publicly voiced an incredibly mild criticism of their brutality during the protests. He immediately switched to completely pro-police public statements, which I guess I can't really blame him for.
- cainxinth 4y agoSee also: Excited delirium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excited_delirium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excited_delirium I first learned of this story from excellent reporting by The Village Voice many years ago: https://www.villagevoice.com/2010/05/04/the-nypd-tapes-inside-bed-stuys-81st-precinct/ https://www.villagevoice.com/2010/05/04/the-nypd-tapes-insid... Absolutely harrowing.
- voxic11 4y agoSo essentially the police got some doctors to make up a condition called "Excited Delirium". Symptoms of Excited Delirium include "Police Noncompliance" and sweating. They have created "treatment protocols" for Excited Delirium which include the immediate administration of intravenous ketamine. Often EMS arrives after police and take their word that the symptoms of Exited Delirium were displayed since the police should be in the best position to know whether the main symptom of "Police Noncompliance" was present. You can learn more about Excited Delirium in this whitepaper which is the basis for claiming its a real condition. https://www.prisonlegalnews.org/media/publications/acep_report_on_excited_delirium_syndrome_sept_2009.pdf https://www.prisonlegalnews.org/media/publications/acep_repo... And you can read more about MPD's "treatment protocols" and read some horrifying case studies in this oversight report that audited body cameras of encounters when ketamine was administered. https://lims.minneapolismn.gov/Download/File/1853/Pre-Hospital%20Sedation%20Report%20Revised%2011-20-2018.pdf https://lims.minneapolismn.gov/Download/File/1853/Pre-Hospit...
- kevviiinn 4y ago>Schoolcraft has stated that: "There's not enough money in the state to get me to settle this suit. It's going to trial and there's no way around that – the truth has to come out." >In September 2015, the portion of the lawsuit against the NYPD settled, with Schoolcraft to receive $600,000 in compensation.[26] The portion against Jamaica Hospital was settled confidentially in November 2015.[27] Interesting
- giraffe_lady 4y agoThis is what ACAB means btw. It's not that good people can't become cops, it's that they can't stay good, or can't stay cops. They either get pressured and eventually broken into habitual complicity or just forced out entirely.
- rythmshifter 4y agoThis is complete nonsense. Anyone saying ACAB are applying a blanket statement to a large group of individuals which are never universally true.
- giraffe_lady 4y agoSure it's not "true" if you can find a single good cop anywhere in the world, which I'm sure you can since the process isn't instantaneous. But it's only not true then in the most technical and gee whiz well-actually way. The dynamic is real and because of it the statement is nearly always true, ie a useful model for predicting outcomes in the world.
- deserialized 4y agoReal boot-licker vibes. Cops can quit and do something else at any time. It's not an identity or protected class aside from qualified immunity. ACAB.

- manxman 4y agoBets on the cops involved being Freemasons?
- manxman 4y agoI’ll post a link to an evidence bundle on HN soon. It will connect some dots linked to this.
