I Bought a High-Mileage Electric Car with a Bad Battery
- netsharc 4y agoTL;DR (maybe inaccurate because I couldn't be bothered to read carefully): he fell in love with the car, lots of blah blah about "should I buy it or not", he decided to buy it but with a back-out clause if the battery health test (which he asked the dealer to do) says it's below 80%, dealer said the battery s not that good anymore, he found some CA EV guarantee law, asked the dealer about it, and he'll be getting a new (refreshed) battery but it might take a few months and he'll wait to take the delivery of the car until then.
- zamnos 4y agoAnd to save some one else the time, the EV in question is a BMW i3.
- londons_explore 4y agoI wish EV makers would publish stats on what happens when the battery is nearly dead. Some EV's can still drive, but with a reduced range. Other EV's pop up a light on the dashboard and won't drive at all. When buying an old vehicle with a dying battery, it really matters which is the case, because typically it won't be worth replacing the battery.
